Agenda (subject to change)

11:30
  Registration, Networking & Lunch

12:20  Welcome & Introductory Remarks
Diane Keller, President & CEO, Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti Regional Chamber

12:30  Keynote Address
Phil Power, Founder & President, The Center for Michigan

Why is this particular November general election so important to Michigan’s future?

12:50  Michigan Constitutional Convention Ballot Proposal Panel Discussion
Dianne Byrum, Partner, Byrum & Fisk, MSU Trustee, and former Michigan House Minority Leader
Tom George, M.D., State Senator, 20th District
Robert S. LaBrant, Senior Vice President of Political Affairs & General Counsel, Michigan Chamber of Commerce
John Logie, Of Counsel, Warner Norcross & Judd, Mayor of Grand Rapids 1991-2003
Moderated by John Bebow, Executive Director, The Center for Michigan

This issue is already on the ballot as Proposal 1. If a majority says yes, we will elect 148 citizens to write a new Constitution for the fourth time since 1850. Why should we do that? Why not? The ramifications for the state as a whole are unquestionably far reaching.

2:10  Intermission & Refreshments

2:25  Michigan Tax Structure Panel Discussion
Charles Ballard, Professor of Economics, Michigan State University
Sabrina Keeley, Chief Operating Officer, Business Leaders For Michigan
Sharon Parks, President & CEO, Michigan League for Human Services
Doug Pratt, Director of Public Affairs, Michigan Education Association
Richard K. Studley, President & CEO, Michigan Chamber of Commerce
Moderated by John Bebow, Executive Director, The Center for Michigan

Our existing tax structure isn’t perfect. It has shortcomings. With virtually every candidate for elected office calling for reform in some regard, what’s the preferred course?

3:45  Closing Remarks*

*Gubernatorial candidates Virg Bernero and Rick Snyder have both been invited to speak.

4:00  After-Hours Candidate Mixer

From 4:00pm to 6:00pm, an opportunity for Chamber members, their guests and Impact attendees to mix, mingle and connect with tomorrow’s leaders and discuss issues of concern. Strolling dinner provided. Cash bar available.
